Sonlight serves La Canada Flintridge across Flintridge, the Alta Canyada streets, Chevy Chase and the properties running up against the Angeles National Forest. This is the closest large residential community to the mountain front in the county, and every one of its glass problems follows from that.
The Angeles front rises directly behind La Canada, which makes it one of the most wind-exposed communities in the region. Santa Ana events funnel down the canyons at fifty to seventy miles an hour, arriving from inland with decomposed granite that packs into tracks and weep holes and abrades screen mesh. That grit is harder than glass, so the sequencing rule matters more here than almost anywhere: tracks are cleared dry before any water goes on the window, because wetting embedded granite and dragging a squeegee through it is running sandpaper across the pane.
The community is also genuine wildland urban interface along its entire northern edge, so in some years the deposit is smoke residue rather than dust, and that needs a flooded neutral-pH pass before anything with an edge touches the glass. La Canada is high enough at around 1,200 feet for real overnight cooling and for conifer cover to be a factor: pine and cedar litter packs weep holes and carries pitch, which bonds to glass and frames and needs a solvent rather than detergent. The water is a Crescenta Valley and Foothill district blend of local wells and imported supply, which is hard enough that irrigation etching on ground-floor glass is a routine finding.

Seven months with no rinse, and here the irrigation runs the entire time on very hard water. Every head that clips a pane leaves calcium behind and the sun evaporates it within minutes. This is the season in which permanent damage is created.
What we do about it
We walk the beds before leaving and point out exactly which heads are hitting glass. Moving one head is a ten-minute fix that saves years of restoration cost, and we would rather tell you that than put you on an annual restoration schedule.

Jacaranda honeydew across the older Pasadena and Arcadia streets, plus a genuine deciduous leaf and seed load from a mature canopy that most of Southern California does not have.
What we do about it
Early July for jacaranda blocks, once the drop finishes. Screens come off and are washed flat rather than brushed in place, because canopy debris felts into mesh when it is brushed.

This community takes the most severe canyon funneling in the county and the wind carries decomposed granite. The damage always happens the same way: someone hoses the window, the embedded track grit gets wet, and the first squeegee pass drags it across the pane.
